About This Destination

The Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area covers approximately 720 square kilometers, mostly covered by forests. The scenic spots are distributed along three main valleys forming a Y-shape: Shuzheng, Rize, and Zechawa, with a total length of over 50 kilometers. The main valley, Shuzheng Valley, extends north-south, sloping from south to north, and opens to the north. It has two branch valleys: Zechawa Valley to the east and Rize Valley to the west. The total length of the valley is approximately 50 kilometers. At the end of Zechawa Valley is Changhu Lake, and at the end of Rize Valley is Caohu Lake. The two valleys merge at Nuorilang to form Shuzheng Valley. The drop from the lakes at the ends of the two valleys to the mouth of Shuzheng Valley is over 1000 meters. There are 114 lakes of varying sizes distributed in a terraced pattern, along with 17 waterfall groups, 11 rapids, and 5 travertine terraces. These water bodies of different shapes are connected to form a scenic area featuring alpine lakes, waterfalls, and travertine terraces, integrating lakes, waterfalls, beaches, streams, snow-capped peaks, forests, and Tibetan customs, embodying the beauty of the primitive, the natural, and the wild.
